SLF started coaching tennis as part of a summer camp delivery to fifty Year 6 students in 2 schools in diverse Birmingham in 2015. Tennis was popular, so it was launched as part of the new programme ‘Building Character through Sport’ with the Commonwealth Games 2022.

SLF is delighted to have been chosen as one of the United By partners to Birmingham 2022. With our new programme of coaching Building Character through Sport, we aim to bring down barriers to entry into sport and education that currently exist amongst communities in less advantaged areas of Birmingham. It builds on the successful and long running Sport for Life International (SFLI) model that uses the power of sport to create new opportunities for young people, especially girls, and their communities to play cricket, tennis and football to increase fitness levels, build mental health and to access quality sporting facilities and coaching.
