Since 2015, SLF has developed a fully tested programme Building Character through Sport at primary and secondary schools in Birmingham and Bradford Leeds. The charity is now working with the University of Birmingham’s Jubilee Centre for Character & Virtues to produce an educational tool to encourage schools to view sport as a resource to build character in young people and improve their academic and physical activity experience.
Additionally, SLF has launched a successful podcast series ‘Conversations on Character Commonwealth Games Special 2022’ recorded in partnership with Professor Tom Harrison of the University of Birmingham and shortly to be available as a book and on YouTube.
Featuring England Cricket Captains Moeen Ali OBE and Heather Knight OBE, Ebony Rainford-Brent MBE, the International Cricket Council’s Gen Mgr Wasim Khan MBE, the Olympic tennis player Jordanne Whiley MBE, Birmingham students and Chair of the Organising Committee for the Commonwealth Games Sir John Crabtree, CVO, OBE, SLF aims to follow this up with a similar series at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026.
